Love getting away, but don’t like the travel? Why not have a “staycation” right here in Kalamazoo. We have always wanted to stay at the Radisson in downtown Kalamazoo and recently had the opportunity to enjoy an overnight stay. We’ve been to the Radisson for numerous events over the years such as the Kzoo Family & Baby Expo and Volunteer Kalamazoo’s Family Day of Service, but have never spent the night in the hotel.
What did we think of our overnight stay at the Radisson? Let me tell you…we loved it! Our family loves to travel and venture to new places. My seven year old son loves staying at hotels. Our visit to the Radisson ranks right in our top tier of our hotel experiences.
After our stay, we came up with these five things to LOVE about the Radisson.
FIVE THINGS TO LOVE ABOUT THE RADISSON
1. There’s Food to Satisfy Any Craving
We started our morning off by visiting the breakfast buffet at Burdick’s for Breakfast. Some of the great options included their freshly squeezed orange juice, made-to-order omelets, and even breakfast burritos. Our stay happened to coincide with one of the monthly character breakfasts which is always a hit with local families. The theme for this past Character Breakfast was LEGO’s.
Other great options include Webster’s, Burdick’s, and Zazios. Enjoy a steak at Webster’s, or head to Zazios for global flavor combinations and handcrafted cocktails. On our bucketlist to check out at a different time is the Chef’s Table at Zazios. The Chef’s Table offers an interactive five-course dinner and wine or cocktail pairings. Or Old Burdick’s is perfect for watching a game and grabbing a burger.
2. There’s an Indoor Waterfall
My son loved the indoor pool. What kid doesn’t love swimming in a hotel pool, right? This indoor pool and hot tub at the Kalamazoo Athletic Club features an indoor water fall too! Located on the lower level of the Radisson, the Kalamazoo Athletic Club offers a wide variety of services to members and hotel guests.
3: You Can Get Ready for the Perfect Night Out
The Radisson is not just one of Kalamazoo’s a great hotels with great restaurants options, but they provide the full shopping and even have spa services.
Pamper yourself at the full service salon & spa, Blush. Luxury facials, couples massages, pedicures, hairstyling, and so much more, they will treat you to a day full of pampering and fun! Want to bring the kids along too? Not a problem. Blush offers Lollipops and Rainbows manicures for the kids to be pampered, while parents enjoy a complimentary glass of wine or beer.
Stop by the coffee and gift shop, Rio, along the way for your cup of Starbucks brewed coffee, and a fun Michigan-themed gift for your friends (or a souvenir for the kids) that they are sure to love!
4. You Are Just Steps Away from Everything Downtown Has to Offer
Located in the center of downtown Kalamazoo, the Radisson truly is the hub of downtown. The Radisson is the perfect location to grab the kids and head out on an adventure for the day.
The Radisson is within walking distance to a number of fun things downtown. Spend the day at the Kalamazoo Valley Museum, take a stroll through the stacks of books at the Kalamazoo Library, or head over to one of the local theaters such as the Kalamazoo Civic Theatre.
A weekend away from the kids? Spend the day touring the craft beer scene with Kalamazoo’s many local breweries. You can’t find a more central or more convenient location to stay downtown. Need more ideas to make your weekend getaway more fun? Check out our Kalamazoo date night ideas here.
5. You Can Get The Rest You Need
The Radisson prides itself on providing the best guest experience each and every time. We had numerous employees ask us about our stay during our visit. We felt each employee went out of their way to give us a great hotel experience.
The beds are super comfy and we found the rooms to be well-decorated and restful. In addition to the nice rooms, when you stay at the Radisson, you’ll find comfort in the fact that the Radisson has everything taken care of. Another great reason to take a staycation right here in Kalamazoo.
TIPS FROM A PARENT
Here’s a couple of tips that we wanted to pass along:
- Book a room on a top floor if possible, you’ll love the view!
- Check out what’s happening in downtown Kalamazoo while you’re at the Radisson. Our KZOOkids.com Event Calendar has a ton of ideas. We enjoyed a great concert at the Kalamazoo Public Library and the LEGO Character Breakfast during our stay.
- Check out the pool. My son loved the pool and we made time to go swimming a few times over our stay.
We’d give the Radisson Plaza at Kalamazoo Center a big thumbs up! We thought the hotel was super nice and really enjoyed our visit. We had a great time there as a family and would recommend it to other area families looking for a great staycation idea.
