Kalamazoo Area Ice Skating Guide

Grab your gloves and welcome the winter season with frozen fun in Kalamazoo and Portage!

We suggest that you call ahead or confirm skate times before you head out. Many of the outdoor locations are weather permitting and some of the indoor locations hours are subject to change.

The Ice Rink at Millennium Park

Located at 280 Romence Road, Portage, MI. This outdoor rink which is operated by the Portage Recreation Department is one of our favorite places to go ice skating. It is conveniently located in Portage and offers the whole family a fun place to skate outdoors. Call (269) 324-9200 for more information and also check for potential closures. 

The Ice Rink at Millennium Park will open for the 17th season in December and will remain open through March 5, 2017, weather permitting. This large outdoor refrigerated rink features skate rental, skate sharpening, snack concessions, restrooms, warming house, lockers and an excellent skating surface!

(Note: On February 14, the rink will be reserved from 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm for the Valentine’s Skate Date event).

January 3 – March 6

  • Sunday – 12:00 pm- 9:00 pm
  • Monday – Wednesday- Closed
  • Thursday – 3:00 pm – 9:00 pm
  • Friday- 3:00 pm – 10:00 pm
  • Saturday – 11:00 am – 10:00 pm

Fees

  • Open skating – $4
  • Skate rental – $3
  • Skate sharpening – $3
  • 10-Skate Punch Card* – $25
    • *punches good for one open skate, one skate rental or one skate sharpening

Special Events at the Ice Rink this season:

Valentine’s Skate Date – Sunday, February 14 from 6:00-9:00 pm

  • $17 / Person
  • Reservations due by February 11 at the Ice Rink

Private skate, live music and dinner on the ice! Bring your partner and/or kids for this unique Valentines experience. Start the evening dining on the ice with a meal catered from the Grampa’s – Great American Pasty & Pie Company, by a server on skates. Following dinner, the rink will be reserved only for those registered for this event.

Wings West

Public skate occurs daily at Wings West located at 5076 Sports Drive in Kalamazoo.
Skate Times

Tuesday thru Friday – 11:30 am – 1:30 pm

Saturday – 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Sunday – 2:15pm – 4:00pm

Fees

  • Admission is $6 and skate rental is $3. Tots (age 4 and under are FREE of admission).

Drop-In Hockey

Tuesday thru Friday – 12:00 pm – 1:30 pm
Fees

  • $8 Admission. Goalies are FREE. (Limited to 26 skaters and 4 goalies)

Open Skate at the Lawson Ice Arena

Open Skate sessions are great opportunities for you to relax, exercise and socialize. Located at 2009 Howard St, Kalamazoo. All children aged 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Unsupervised children will not be permitted into the facilities. Call the 24 hour number (269) 387-3046 for updated times, dates or cancellations. Tip from a reader: bring change for the parking meters.

South Haven Ice Rink

Looking to venture out a little further from home? Why not check out the ice rink in South Haven. The South Haven Ice Rink is located in downtown South Haven across from City Hall under the Pavilion. Call 269-639-1113 for more information.

Echo Valley

Echo Valley has a natural ice rink on a small lake, however, it is subject to current Michigan weather conditions**.
