Heading down south to Florida or other warmer climates was not in the cards for our family this year at Spring Break time. We wanted to do something fun, but didn’t want to drive too far. That’s why we looked into staying at KeyLime Cove. We’ve had friends who had stayed at KeyLime Cove and loved it. We decided to book our stay and check things out for ourselves.
KeyLime Cove is located at 1700 Nations Drive, Gurnee, IL. It is the perfect location midway between Chicago and Milwaukee off I-94. The resort itself is a pretty good size with 414 Resort-Style Suites and Staterooms in 10 different layouts. We stayed in a Mangrove Suite and loved having the extra room to spread out.
From the moment we checked into our room, our family really enjoyed our experience at KeyLime Cove. It truly felt like a vacation getaway. The tropical theme of the resort truly makes you feel like you are in warmer climates.
One of the things that made it really feel like a vacation was that no keys or wallets were needed. Your (the adult) wristband is your key card to your room and can be hooked to a credit card. Everywhere you go they can just scan your wrist and it’s all there.
Lost Paradise Waterpark
The Lost Paradise Waterpark is a tropical-themed indoor waterpark with loads of wet and wild playtime for the entire family. With 6 pools and various features including slides, a spray area, lazy river and wave pool, there is something for everyone. Plus, we liked the fact that waterpark access is exclusive to KeyLime Cove vacationers.
A Full Arcade
There is also an arcade with numerous games and some small rides for the younger set. You will also find one of our favorites, a mini-bowling alley where we had a competitive game of bowling.
While we were there, we took full advantage of the Leapin’ Lizards activities which happen on the hour. Some of the special activities that we did included: a scavenger hunt, cookie decorating, and special crafts.
Want a day at the spa? There are two spas: one for adults (Paradise Mist Spa) and one for kids (The Enchanted Lagoon Kids Spa). Both offer an array of spa options.
Another of our favorites features of KeyLime Cove was Duval Street. This is a boardwalk full of adventure including shopping, live entertainment, assorted amusements and street vendors. Scheduled entertainment includes festive gathering of stilt-walkers, exotic birds, face painters, balloon sculptors, magicians, street artists and pirates. We were given an information sheet when we checked in with special weekend events.
There are plenty of “key-licious” eating options at KeyLime Cove such as the Sharky’s, Anna Chovy’s & Hot Diggety Dawgs, Island Temptations, D.W. Anderson’s, The Crazy Toucan, and more! So you don’t even need to leave the property to grab a bite to eat.
We really enjoyed our stay at KeyLime Cove and would recommend it to families looking for some indoor waterpark fun. We loved all of the great activity options at the resort as well. Plus, during the summer, they are super close to Six Flags Great America which makes it a perfect spot for a mini vacation getaway.
