I’ve been looking forward to some of the new businesses coming to Kalamazoo. It seems like the Kalamazoo area has exploded lately with so many new offerings.
I’ve been watching for the opening of Cafe’ ’36 at Sawall Health Foods and was excited to see they posted some photos on their Facebook page and Instagram about a soft opening of their new restaurant, Cafe’ ’36.
When my son and I arrived for an early dinner on a Thursday night, we were one of the few customers at the restaurant. We had the opportunity to speak to their Executive Chef, Jason Tilmann who is clearly passionate about local, healthy, and fresh food. The menu is seasonal and there is a focus on getting the best ingredients of each season onto the menu.
I ordered just one appetizer, the Roasted Michigan Asparagus since I was ordering a full meal as well. It was the perfect summer fresh appetizer.
The pizza menu looked great and I loved their version of margarita pizza.
So, how does their kids menu look? I have to tell you, I love it. You won’t find the typical chicken fingers or hot dogs on the menu. My son ordered the roasted chicken with corn, baby carrots, and natural jus. Did I mention that my 9-year-old son is a bit of a “foodie”? He loved his entree and gave it a big thumbs up.
After their Grand Opening (watch their Facebook page for updates), our family definitely plans to go back and sample some more items on their menu. Some of the menu items that peaked my interest were the salads, fresh appetizers, and the great vegan offerings. Plus, their fish dishes look outstanding!
