Summer is a busy for fairs and festivals all over SW Michigan. There are some unique celebrations and activities just waiting for your family to join in on the fun! Here is a sampling of events that you can find in our community this summer.
Battle Creek Field of Flight Air Show and Balloon Fest, Battle Creek – June 29 – July 4, 2017
The annual Air Show and Balloon Fest in Battle Creek is a fun, family event! Featuring firework displays, live music, carnival, kids’ day, and beautiful displays of hot air balloons. One main event in the show is the US Air Force’s demonstration of the F-22 raptor and Tora, Tora, Tora-the Air Force’s Reenactment of the bombing of Pearl Harbor. Kindleberger Summer Festival, Parchment – July 12-16
This annual festival is loaded with family fun. Activities include: annual family musical production and youth play. Car show, arts and crafts day, 5K race and Kids Fun Run, parade and kids’ area.
Black Arts Festival, Kalamazoo – July 13 – 16, 2017
2017 marks the 31st Annual Black Arts Festival that has been produced by BACC in Kalamazoo. Events for this festival include a Youth Day, Unity Through Culture Weekend, summer block party and more.
Van Buren Youth Fair, Hartford – July 17 – 22, 2017
The exciting Van Buren Youth Fair will feature tractor pulls, rodeo, a traveling zoo, carnival rides, motocross demos and much more! Wednesday is Kid’s Day at the fair with reduced prices for ride wristbands available. For a complete list of all the events and times, check out the fair website.
Summer in the City, Dowagiac – July 21 – 24, 2017
This three-day festival in Dowagiac is a family-friendly opportunity to get out and enjoy live music, sidewalk sales, BMX demos, and interactive games for kids. Most of the events during the festival are free to the public. Unique experiences like camel rides, youth and adult bags tournaments, and dunk a cop will leave your family with many memories this summer!
Paw Paw Days Classic Car and Truck Show, Paw Paw – July 21 – 22, 2017
If your family appreciates vintage vehicles and classic cars and trucks, this is the festival for you. On Saturday, July 22 much of downtown Paw Paw will be shut down to hose the biggest-ever Paw Paw Days Classic Car and Truck Show! Other attractions include sidewalk sales, food vendors, cornhole (bags) tournamet, arts and crafts sales, and games and water activities for younger visitors.
RIb Fest, Kalamazoo – August 3 – 5, 2017
Get ready for three full days of food and fun with the Kalamazoo Rib Fest! Admission to the event is $10 and guests will enjoy live music, specialty food vendors and of course rib vendors. This is the 30th year for Rib Fest and over 10,000 people are expected to participate. Proceeds from Rib Fest go to benefit Arc Community Action, which provides support for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to live full, meaningful lives within the community.
Kalamazoo County Youth Fair, Kalamazoo – August 8 – 12, 2017
Families can save a bit of money by registering early for the Kalamazoo County Youth Fair. The fair, which features a midway with fun carnival rides and games, is an affordable, educational experience for the whole family. There are many opportunities for volunteering during the fair, for more information on how to get involved, visit the fair website.

54th Annual National Blueberry Festival, South Haven – August 10 – 13, 2017
Blueberry lovers look no further! Get ready for some purple fingers and full bellies as the 54th Annual National Blueberry Festival kicks off in South Haven. The kids will love the blueberry pie eating contest and pancake breakfasts, and parents will love the picturesque views of Lake Michigan, arts and crafts fair, 5k run/walk and much more!

Kalamazoo Scottish Festival & Highland Games, Kalamazoo – August 26
At this festival you will find:traditional Scottish games, reenactments, weaving, and more! Stay tuned as more updates become available.
Allegan County Fair, Allegan – September 8-16, 2017
If you’ve lived in Southwest Michigan for any number of years, chances are you’ve heard of a big fair in a small town – the Allegan County Fair. This year the fair boasts performing acts such as Thomas Rhett, Alabama and Jeff Foxworthy and Larry the Cable Guy. A parade in downtown Allegan will be held on Monday, September 11th at 6:30 p.m. Combine all of the music and fun with rodeo, car shows and carnival rides, the Allegan County Fair has fun for everyone!
