Where to Shop or Sell – Kids Consignment Stores Around Kalamazoo

by Holly L

As the seasons change and it comes time to get rid of clothes that no longer fit the kids anymore, it can be hard to part with them. Consignment and resale is a great way to get the clothes you once loved for your child into the hands of someone who will love them equally as much. The same goes for buying clothes. Filling a closet with beautiful clothes can be very expensive, buying secondhand is a great way to save a fortune on an ever changing wardrobe.

Here are some of the top consignment stores in the area that feature childrens as well as maternity clothing for consignment and resale.

SecondChildhood

Second Childhood
(Childrens)

6784 S Westnedge Ave
Portage, MI 49024
(269) 324-9997

Second Childhood is a consignment store that prides itself on stocking all the best brands available for your child. They only take items in new or the most gently used condition. When you take your items in to sell they will take about 15 minutes to sort through your offerings, then they will take whatever they think they can sell, and is seasonally appropriate then add those items to your account. When an item sells your account will receive a credit. You can call anytime to find out how much credit you have on your account. When you stop in they will give you cash or you can put your credit towards any purchases in store. When the season is over you pick up anything that hasn’t sold, or they will donate the items for you if you do not want them back.

Hand Me Down Rose
(Childrens)

5462 Gull Rd
Kalamazoo, MI 49048
(269) 381-8450

Hand Me Down Rose focuses not on brands, but on obtaining clothes that are in really great condition. They want a store full of like new items at really great prices. They do take equipment and toys in really good condition as well. You do not need an appointment to drop off items for the shop to look though, they likely won’t take everything you bring but you can browse the store while they go through your items. There is a cute little play corner to occupy the kids while you wait or shop. After 60 days, if your item has not sold, it is up to you to come pick the items up, or they will become the property of Hand Me Down Rose and/or donated.

Once Upon A Child
(Childrens and Maternity)

643 Romence Rd
Portage, MI 49024
(269) 903-2823

Once Upon A Child is a nationwide chain that buys and sells gently used items for children of all ages. The store is packed with clothes for infants all the way up through teenagers, and there is even a small maternity section as well. They also have a lot of used baby gear, sports equipment and toys as well. When you sell to Once Upon A Child, you bring your items in, fill out a sheet of paper and then you have the option of staying and browsing while they go through your items, or they will call you when they are done so you can pick up anything they don’t buy. They are notoriously picky about items they will buy, but they do give you cash in hand the day you drop off so once you leave the store there is nothing more to do. Their prices for used clothing are low, so you are sure to find a good deal on some very nice clothes if you have the time to search the racks.
