For 35 years Ballet Arts Ensemble (BAE) has provided outstanding dance events for Kalamazoo residents, and this year’s spring concert celebrates a variety of works we have performed over the past 35 years.
Artistic Director Cathleen Huling and BAE invite you to join us at Chenery Auditorium for a trip down memory lane on Saturday, March 18, at 2 pm and 7 pm when we present Spring Concert 2017 ● Celebrating 35 Years. This family-friendly concert features selections that appeal to a variety of tastes—from the beauty of classical ballet to the humor of The Dinner Party—at very affordable prices.
Current BAE dancers will be joined by community members, BAE alumnae, and the Ballet Arts Contemporary Dance Company (BACDC); and members of the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Daniel Brier, will provide live music for the final two works.
Highlights of the concert include:
- It’s All About . . . , a collaborative work based on the sculptures of Kirk Newman (Kalamazoo Institute of Arts).
- Excerpts from such well known ballets as Rodeo, Nutcracker, Cinderella, Hansel and Gretel, and Peter and the Wolf.
- Two dances performed by the BACDC, choreographed by Director Georgie Reigel.
- The Enduring Spring, a new work choreographed by Ms. Huling to celebrate our 35th anniversary.
- A reprise of Cathleen Huling’s humorous mini-ballet, The Dinner Party.
