Each year around the beginning of March, we venture out to Frederik Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park in Grand Rapids to visit the Butterflies are Blooming exhibition. It is always nice to have a change of scenery in late winter and it is just an hour away. An added bonus, it makes you feel like Spring is just around the corner!
What is the Butterflies Are Blooming Exhibition?
The annual Butterflies Are Blooming exhibition at Meijer Gardens is the largest temporary tropical butterfly exhibition in the nation. From March 1 through April 30, guests can experience tropical butterflies from around the world flying freely in the Tropical Conservatory.

What Else Is There To Do?
Bring your jacket and head outside to explore the great outdoor gardens. Although it may be a little chilly in March, there is still plenty to do and see. We enjoy walking around the Lena Meijer Children’s Gardens, climbing through the Treehouse Village, and visiting the Michigan’s Farm Garden. For more information, visit the Frederik Meijer Gardens and Sculpture website.
Also, note that there are outdoor picnic areas if you bring your own food. We’ve eaten in the café a few times and have found good options for both kids and adults.
