Now that the warm weather is here to stay, it’s time to get outside! Interested in exploring some of the area parks? We asked our Facebook followers to tell us their favorite toddler-friendly parks. Here is what you recommended to other parents:

TODDLER-FRIENDLY AREA PARKS
(West Lake Nature Preserve)
9001 South Westnedge, Portage 49002
West Lake Nature Preserve features a brand new play structure! The structure has great toddler-sized slides and climbing components. Your toddler will also love the new animals to climb on as well as the swing set, with one regular swing and one baby swing. Another plus, at many times of the day this park has great shade.

2. Harbors West Park
3458 Summersong Path, Portage, 49024
Harbors West Park is a great find, located in a residential area in northwest Portage. Playground equipment includes one infant swing, monkey bars, regular swings, various sizes of slides, bridge and even a volleyball court which doubles as a giant sandbox for your little one. There are also paved walking trails, so be sure to bring your stroller and bikes.
3. Flesher Field
3664 South 9th Street, Kalamazoo, 49009
Flesher Field is a popular park for every age. For toddlers there are great play structures with slides, climbing, toddler swings, regular swings, hammock and other structure to ride and climb. There is also a picnic area, restrooms and a .17 mile paved loop trail.

4. Oshtemo Park
7275 West Main Street, Kalamazoo, 49009
Oshtemo Township Park is a beautiful park located behind Oshtemo Township Hall. There are two separate play areas that feature various playground structures including two infant swings, two toddler swings, bouncers, net climbing area and basketball court. Pack a picnic to enjoy under their covered pavilion located near the playground.

5. River Oaks
9202 East Michigan Avenue (M-96), Galesburg, 49053
On those unbearably hot summer days, check out River Oaks Park. River Oaks, located in Galesburg, features a popular splash pad. The splash pad has water spray structures designed just for the toddler age group. There is also a playground near the splash pad for those that would prefer to stay dry. Cost to enter the park is $5 per vehicle, per day. You can inquire about group rentals by calling the Parks Office at (269) 383-8778. The Splash Pad is open Memorial Day through Labor Day.
6. Ramona Park
8600 South Sprinkle Road, Portage, MI 49002
Whether you want to go to the beach, or just enjoy the playgrounds, Ramona Park has you covered. The park has access to Long Lake Beach, where a lifeguard is always on duty in the summer. The park itself hosts two playgrounds with regular swings, special infant/toddler swings, slides, rocker and many other fun options. There is a daily admission rate of $5 a vehicle for Portage residents during the beach months. Click here for hours and additional pricing.
7. Schrier Park
850 West Osterhout Avenue, Portage, MI 49024
In the mood for a nice quiet park, away from all the hustle? Check out Schrier Park in south Portage. There is one play set, the perfect height for toddlers, which includes slides, bridges, multiple small climbing structures, and a swing set with two swings. The park also has a brand new outdoor pavilion area.
8. Upjohn Park
Corner of Lake and Walter Street, Kalamazoo, MI 49007
Upjohn Park in Downtown Kalamazoo features the outdoor Kik swimming pool which is open from June to August. The park also features fun activities for toddlers including playground equipment featuring a mini rock-climbing wall, baby swings, ladder and see-saw. The Kik Swimming Pool opens on Saturday, June 10th. Click here for hours and pricing for the season.

9. Chancy Lewis Park
520 S. Main St. (M-40), Lawton, 49065
Chancy Lewis Park in Lawton (aka Kid’s Dream Park). It is a beautifully shaded playground, made of wood. It has an area specifically designated for toddlers and two picnic areas. It is conveniently located off M-40. Hours are 7:00 am to dusk.
10. Haverhill Park
6577 Hampton Street, Portage, 49024
If you’re biking the Northwest Portage bikeway, consider a stop at Haverhill Park. The park has a great play structure, swings for little kids, restrooms and picnic tables – a perfect place for a picnic.
