Celebrating the Stars and Stripes

The Fourth of July will be here soon and it is not too early to start planning for some Independence Day fun with family and friends! Many Southwest Michigan communities have parades, fireworks or other activities planned. There is sure to be a way to celebrate that everyone will enjoy!

Read on for where to catch the star-spangled festivities this year!

4th of July Parades

Parades are all on July 4, 2018, unless otherwise noted.

4th of July Parade

Bangor

Time: 5:00 PM

A Patriotic Parade! Line-up begins at the American Legion Post 160 at 4:30 PM and the parade ends at Lander’s Hardware. After the parade there will be the Breakout Band at Bangor High School and the Baseball Program Cookout and fireworks to finish the evening.

Colon

Time: 11:00 AM

This parade starts at the corner of Dallas St. and State St. and travels through town. There will also be an arts and crafts show from 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM.

Constantine

Time: 11:00 AM

The parade begins on E. 2nd Street and travels south. There will also be fireworks in the evening.

Decatur

Time: 11:00 AM

This parade starts at the corner of Mills St. and W. Delaware St. and ends at the VFW on Phelps St. After the parade there will be activities at the VFW for kids and adults.

Dorr

Time: 10:30 AM

The parade line begins at St Peter’s Lutheran Church at 9:00 AM or earlier. Parade viewing areas are on south 18th St & West 142nd Ave., continuing past the parks. While in town for the parade, stay for food, live music and more. A fireworks display will end the evening.

Lawton

Date: July 7th

Time: 5: 00 PM

There will be lots of activities during the day before and after the parade including a dunk tank, face painting, horse shoe tournament, and so much more!

Richland

Time: 11:00 AM

This parade starts downtown on M-89 near the Middle School and concludes at Gracespring Bible Church on Gull Road. Head over to the park afterwards for the Gull Lake Area Lions Club Chicken BBQ Fundraiser!

4th July Parade

Saugatuck-Douglas

Time: 2:00 PM

This annual 4th of July parade heads down Butler Street. New this year, the Rotary Club of Saugatuck-Douglas is hosting the Waterfront Festival with music, food trucks, a children’s corner, and a celebrity dunk tank from Noon – 9:00 PM at Coghlin Park followed by fireworks on the harbor.

Schoolcraft

Time: 11:00 AM

This parade starts on Eliza at the railroad tracks and ends at the corner of Clay and 14th. After the parade stay for a fun-filled day of activities for all ages and a fireworks display at dusk.

South Haven

Time: 11:00 AM – 12:30 PM

An annual event, the parade travels through downtown South Haven.

Firework

See a number of dazzling firework shows around Southwest Michigan. Note: There will be no fireworks display in Portage this year due to construction at McCamley Field.

Battle Creek Field of Flight Air Show & Balloon Festival

Dates: June 30th (Rain date July 1st) and July 4th (No rain date)

Time: Dusk

Two Firework shows! The fireworks displays will each be over 15 minutes long (one of the largest in the State of Michigan) and will feature a low show and a high show and will be choreographed to Patriotic Music along with some pop, rock & country. Admission is $10 and parking is $5.

Bangor

Date: July 4th

Time: 10:15 PM

The fireworks are the perfect end to a day of patriotic fun. Come earlier for the 4th of July parade, live music and food.

Colon

Date: July 4th

Time: Dusk

The fireworks are set off at Colon Elementary School.

Constantine

Date: July 4th

Time: Dusk

These fireworks will be by the Little League fields. There will also be a parade earlier in the day.

Decatur

Date: July 4th

Time: Dusk

These fireworks will be displayed over Lake of the Woods. Decatur also has a parade earlier in the day and activities for all ages at the VFW after the parade.

Dorr

Date: July 4th

Time: Dusk

Bring lawn-chairs and blankets for the firework show. There will be family fun happening all day.

Gun Lake

Date: July 7th (Rain Date July 8th)

Time: 10:20 PM

Firework display over Gun Lake presented by the Gun Lake Protective Association.

Kalamazoo Growlers Home Game

Time: The game starts at 7:05 PM, fireworks will be after the game.

Come for the game and stick around for fireworks after the game! Fireworks shows are now shot directly on the field in centerfield to provide an up close amazing display. Game tickets are required to enter the ballpark.

Kalamazoo Speedway – RED, WHITE & BOOM!

Date: June 30th

Time: Racing starts at 7:30 PM

Family Fun With Stunts, Mayhem, Monster Trucks, Bus Races, Trailer Races, Scarecrow, Monster Truck & Bus Rides, not to mention a huge fireworks display! General admission fees are $20 adults, $10 kids 6-12, and kids 5 and under are free.

Lawton (Summerfest)

Date: July 7th

Time: 10:30 PM

The fireworks will be on Main St.  There will be lots of other activities during the day including a dunk tank, face painting, horse shoe tournament, and so much more!

Plainwell

Date: July 4th

Time: 10:00 PM

Fireworks are at the Plainwell Municipal Airport.

St. Joseph Independence Day Celebration

Date: July 4th

Time: 9:00 PM (Fireworks 10:30 PM)

Don’t miss patriotic favorites, including Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture with a thunderous fireworks display overhead. The evening will include food, drink and fun for the whole family. Tickets are required.

Saugatuck-Douglas

Date: July 4th

Schoolcraft

Date: July 4th

Fireworks are set off behind Schoolcraft High School. Schoolcraft also offers a parade and a fun-filled day of activities for all ages!

South Haven

Date:  July 3rd

Time: Dusk

Fireworks off the North Pier. Viewing from Riverfront Park, North & South Beaches.

Other Independence Day Celebrations & Activities

Armed Forces Day at Flash Flood Water Park

On July 4th from 11:00 AM – 6:00 PM there will be buy one admission, get one half off admission. $10 General Admission and $13 Super Blast Pass.

36th Annual 4th of July in Charlton Park

36th Annual 4th of July & Veterans Bar-B-Que will be held July 4th  from 11:30 AM – 4:00 PM, with FREE admission! Flag raising and remembrance will be before the Bar-B-Que. Games begin at 1:00 PM on the village green. Everyone is encouraged to bring a home-made pie to be judged by an expert panel.
