Your April Guide to Fun and Affordable Around Kalamazoo

The sweet melody of birds chirping, the warmth of the sun shining (hopefully) on your face, and daffodils poking through the muddy ground all signal one thing –  SPRING!

April kicks off with a bang – Easter on April 1st and spring break the first week. Families will enjoy many free springtime activities with their kids in Kalamazoo.

So, it’s an order – take a break from spring cleaning and enjoy these 14 events with your kids this April!

Monday, April 2nd

Messy Monday

Forever Curious Children’s Museum, Fennville | 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM | 269-561-8494

Every day during the week of spring break, Forever Curious Children’s Museum will host special events for kids. The special days include: Messy Monday, Art Tuesday, Wild Wednesday, Theater Thursday, Family Fun Friday, and Science Saturday. The activities are free with admission into the museum ($5 per person).

Tuesday, April 3rd

Tween/Teen Movie Day

Otsego Public Library, 401 Dix Street, Otsego  |4:00 PM | 269-694-9690

Tweens and teens will enjoy a free movie, popcorn and refreshments at the Otsego Public LIbrary. This event is for all middle and high school aged students.

Friday, April 6th

Air Zoo – Mobile Planetarium

Galesburg Charleston Memorial District Library, 188 E Michigan, Galesburg  |1:00 PM and 2:15 PM| 269-665-7839

The Air Zoo will help you end spring break on a high note! Two free planetarium shows will take place at the Galesburg Charleston Memorial District Library. The event is family-friendly.

Saturday, April 7th

Michael’s Kids

Michael’s, 6601 S Westnedge Ave | 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM

For just $2, your child can make a windsock while you shop! The event is for kids ages three and up. There are other Michael’s Kids days throughout the month : April 14- Tissue Paper Mache, April 21- Earth Day Themed Crafts, April 28- Spring Showers Art. Parents must remain in the store while the kids complete the craft.

Tuesday, April 10th

Tinkergarten Trial Class

Kids ages 18 months – five years will explore nature and learn through play alongside their parent. Older/younger siblings are welcome to attend. Families must register and the event is FREE.

Friday, April 13th

Rollerworld Friday Skate

Rollerworld, 7461 Stadium Drive, Kalamazoo, |6:00 PM – 9:00 PM | 269-375-4609

Lace up your skates and get ready for some family fun! Admission is $8.50 and skate rental is $3-$5 if you do not bring your own skates. Music played at this event will come from the Billboard Top 40 and appropriate for kids ages 6-13. Scouts get in free.

Saturday, April 14th

Build a CD Hovercraft

Will your child’s hovercraft travel by land or by water? It’s up the child to decide during this FREE event. Participants must register prior to attending.

Wednesday, April 18th

Homeschool Hop

Every Wednesday, homeschooled kids can have a blast jumping, hopping and flying around Sky Zone! This healthy fun is just $9.99 for 60 minutes of jump time. Remember to bring your Sky Socks!

Thursday, April 19th

The Great Piggy Bank Exhibit

Kids in grades K-5th can celebrate Money Smart Week with this free event. Kids will create outrageous piggy banks. Banks will be shown off on the KPL’s virtual Great Piggy Bank Exhibit.

Teen Scene

After Hours Family Scavenger Challenge

Bronson Park Earth Day Celebration

Free Admission to W.K. Kellogg Bird Sanctuary

Middle School Night Out
