Good morning Kalamazoo community! It’s time to wake up to the delicious aroma of breakfast with a trip to some of the best breakfast spots in the area. So whether you take your eggs sunny-side up or scrambled, make sure to check out the list of restaurants in the area serving some great breakfast.

East Egg

East Egg is a locally opened company and has several locations in the community. They offer locally grown eggs and house made bread – freshly made in their own kitchen. They offer gluten-free options and have a great kids menu. They also offer a full lunch menu.

East Egg has the following locations: WMU Campus (2628 W. Michigan), Mattawan (23901 City Center Circle), Portage (6907 Sears Drive), Richland (8880 North 32nd Street) and in the Kalamazoo Milwood neighborhood (2814 Portage Road).

Food Dance

Celebrating 20 years in the community, Food Dance offers delicious breakfast options sure to satisfy. They shop at the Farmers Markets and use local food products as much as possible. A beautiful setting with murals on the wall and lots of eye-appealing artwork! Make sure to check out their website as Food Dance offers a full lunch/dinner menu as well as other hosting various events/classes.

HOURS – Monday thru Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and on Sunday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. (breakfast hours).

Crow’s Nest

Crow’s Nest was mentioned by many of our readers as a great breakfast place. Located in the heart of the Vine neighborhood in Kalamazoo, Crow’s Nest is a busy breakfast hotspot. The restaurant buys local whenever possible and features coffee from Fourth Coast Café.

HOURS – 8:00 a.m. until Midnight

Café Meli

Café Meli offers an extensive breakfast menu and was also a favorite mention by several of our readers. The restaurant is located across from the Kalamazoo Airport on Portage Road, and serves generous portions. Their breakfast menu boasts baked frittatas, swanky pancakes and wicked crepes, to name a few. Monday thru Saturday they offer a breakfast special from 7-11 a.m. of eggs, toast, hash browns and coffee for $2.99. Also, Café Meli offers senior breakfast specials Monday thru Friday from 7-11 a.m.

Studio Grill

Studio Grill is located in downtown Kalamazoo on W. Michigan Ave. next to the Michigan News Agency. The restaurant offers an extensive omelet list. The children’s menu (for ages 11 and younger) has a wide variety of options and very reasonable – around $2.50! They make mickey-mouse pancakes for the kiddos. They also offer a variety of vegetarian and vegan dishes. The Studio Grill is open for lunch.

HOURS – Monday thru Friday from 7:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., Saturday 7:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. and on Sunday from 8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.


Michelle’s (Romence Road)

Part of the EMA Enterprise group of restaurants, Michelle’s is conveniently located on Romence Road in Portage. Breakfast is served all day. They have a large banquet room that you can reserve if you have a large party (no cost). The kids’ menu offers a fruity-pebble pancake for a special treat. On one visit, our server brought out mickey-mouse shaped pancakes. Tip: On Tuesday’s they offer a breakfast special for $1.99 – Toast, eggs and Water Street coffee.

LaRue’s Family Restaurant

Located in Oshtemo Township, LaRue’s is family-owned and serves breakfast anytime. “The Seafood Benedict dish is the best” commented one reader. Note – only cash or check accepted.

HOURS – Monday thru Saturday from 6:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. and Sunday from 7:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Maggie’s Café

Located at the Stadium Shoppes in Kalamazoo, Maggie’s serves a variety of breakfast items including the popular “Breakfast Stew” skillet. They have an extensive bakery case offering muffins, cinnamon rolls and their signature cookies. Maggie’s Café also offers takeout/catering.
