Kalamazoo loves it’s food! We’ve been asked by our readers to find places that are currently offering cooking classes. See our current round-up for a listing.

You’ll be inspired to try new things and maybe even pick up some new cooking skills!

Note: these classes are for adults. 


People’s Food Co-op

The People’s Food Co-op is more than a grocery store; it is a consumer-owned cooperative business with over 2400 community members and shoppers who have financially invested in the store, and thus are Co-op owners. Everyone is welcome to shop at the Co-op. In addition to shopping, the Co-op offers cooking classes. Cooking classes are $25 per person and older kids (12-17 years old) can participate for free with their parent.

Food Dance

Food Dance is a restaurant, market, bakery and catering establishment with a focus on ingredients sourced from local purveyors. Food Dance hosts cooking classes throughout the year and aims to introduce guests to new elements of the culinary and agricultural worlds. Classes are posted on the website and are held during the week in the evening from 6:00 – 8:00 pm. See website link for class description and pricing.

Pantry On Tap

The Pantry brings you fresh-from-the-tap specialty oils and vinegars. I personally love all of the great olive oils and vinegars that you can find at the Pantry on Tap. They offer a credit for returning your bottle and offer sampler packs too. Sizes range from 100 ml to 750 ml. Click here for more information on their upcoming classes offered this year. The cost is $30 per person.

Thanksgiving Side Dishes- Choosing the Best Thanksgiving Recipes | November 15

Planned classes for the future in 2016 include: Everything Hummus, Crock Pot Cooking, Soups, and more! As a gourmet Olive Oil and Balsamic Vinegar Store, they incorporate their products into our classes and most of our dishes do feature one of our premium oils or vinegar as part of the recipe. Classes here focus more on demonstration and instruction rather than class participation. We usually feature 3 or more dishes in keeping with the class theme and everyone gets to sample each offering.

Pacific Rim Foods

Cooking classes are offered through Pacific Rim Foods with there typically offering a series of classes. $25 per person, class is RSVP only with a $10 deposit (non-refundable). Vegetarians: $20. See website’s event page for more information about upcoming classes.

Zazio’s Chef Table

Although not a true cooking class, the chef’s table at Zazio’s Restaurant (located inside the Radisson Hotel in downtown Kalamazoo) is an opportunity to learn about Italian cuisine. They accept open reservations on Thursdays at 6:30 pm and Fridays and Saturdays at 5:30 pm and 8:30 pm (times subject to change). The chef’s table also has other days available during the week, based on a minimum amount of diners. Visit the website to check on availability and to review the monthly menu theme.

Bravo! Restaurant & Café

Join award winning Chef/Owner Shawn Hagen of BraVo! Restaurant for cooking classes that are light-hearted, hands on, and entertaining. Geared for anyone from the novice cook to the experienced chef, Chef Shawn will guide you to create wonderful meals as he shares some of the tricks of the trade. You’ll benefit from our chef’s years of experience, taste all of the recipes, and receive a recipe packet to take home! Classes are from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm and are $65.00 per person. Class tickets are on sale at the restaurant, or by calling 269-344-7700.

  • Eight different recipes showcasing Michigans great ingrediants.
