Where To Donate


The first of the year is a great time to start off fresh and get organized for the year ahead. But, what options are there for donating clothes? Below is a list we’ve complied for donation options for the gently-used clothes your family has outgrown or you no longer wear. In addition to providing people in need with some very nice, gently used clothing, you can also receive a tax deduction for donations.


Donate Nationally

The Salvation Army

The Salvation Army accepts clothing for men, women, and children in good condition. Donations go toward stocking Salvation Army family stores, and proceeds from these stores help fund the Salvation Army’s adult rehabilitation centers. Additionally, pick-ups can be scheduled online through the website.

Planet Aid

Planet Aid’s mission is to create a sustainable environment while helping charities at the same time. Clothing donations are recycled through textile recycling, or sold at resale shops. Proceeds from the resale shops go toward helping developing nations. Planet Aid wants to save all textiles from the landfill. Instead of separating your families unwanted clothes into “donate” and “recycle” piles, you can put everything in one bag and drop it off in one of their convenient yellow bins. You can still receive a receipt for donated clothing by filling out the online form. Visit the website to locate a yellow drop-off bin near you. Below is a list of several in the area:

Goodwill Industries

Goodwill provides community outreach for low-income families and individuals. Goodwill has a resale shop, and the proceeds benefit the charity. You can donate gently used clothing (free of stains and rips) for men, women, and children. The local Goodwill (check website for specific store and/or donation drop-off times):

St. Vincent de Paul

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is a Catholic non-profit and accepts clothing (men, women & children) donations for use in their thrift stores. Beyond providing needy families with much-needed clothing at low prices, proceeds from the sales also benefit the charity directly.

Valley Thrift Store

This outreach is run completely by donations, and all proceeds from the Valley Thrift Store help to fund “Friday Groceries” program and other outreach ministries of Valley Family Church.

Portage Community Center

PCC accepts gently used clothing. Every Wednesday morning the center runs a clothing bar open to all residents of Kalamazoo County who qualify. PCC also accepts small household items and toys.

St. Luke’s Thrift Shop

Proceeds from re-sale of items donated support selected Church projects and community outreach organizations. Only adult clothing is accepted at St. Luke’s Thrift stop and they recommend calling in advance to confirm a volunteer is working during the donation hours.

Kalamazoo Gospel Mission

All proceeds from the Rescued Treasures store help to support those staying at the Mission and participating in our Recovery and Job Skills programs. Gently used adult and children’s clothing is accepted.

Kalamazoo Free Methodist Church

HIS Closet is a clothing shop ministry located in the classroom behind the Centennial Center where people who need clothes can come and shop for free.  They accept gently-used clothing, boots and shoes. This ministry is especially in need of men’s clothes.  Donation hours are Monday from 10 – 1p.m. or contact the office or email: [email protected]  to arrange a donation outside of that time.

Proceeds from the thrift store help to offset tuition expenses for Kalamazoo Christian students and their families. The store accepts gently used clothing (men’s, women’s, children’s) as well as other household items.

The Kalamazoo Dream Center is a ministry that is actively engaging with the poor and homeless individuals and families in Southwest Michigan. This ministry accepts gently used clothing and is especially in need of men’s clothing, men and women underwear (new) and socks.

Alternatives of Kalamazoo

Alternatives is a non-profit Christian organization. Alternatives of Kalamazoo provides clothing for their clients as well as supplies for babies/children.  They accept ‘like new’ material donations such as maternity clothes and girls/boy clothing from preemie up through size 3T. Kids Closet accepts gently used children’s clothing from sizes 5T through adult (for high schoolers). Donations can be dropped off any time in a bin located in the back of the building. The building is located across from Summit Polymers at the west edge of Vicksburg.

Charitable Union

Charitable Union is a non-profit organization that helps provide clothes and bedding to children, families and veterans serving Calhoun County.

Caring Network of Catholic Charites Diocese of Kalamazoo helps pregnant and parenting women of all ages, faiths and marital status. The organization accepts new and gently used clothing and supplies for women and babies/children sizes preemie up through size 4T.
