When dusk begins to fall on October skies in Michigan, the stage is being set for one of nature’s most magical performances. The appearance of migrating Sandhilll Cranes across this autumn canvas is a wondrous spectacle that has been enjoyed by thousands of visitors to Southwest Michigan during Michigan Audubon’s annual CraneFest. Hosted in partnership with the Kiwanis.Club of Battle Creek, CraneFest is a family-friendly outdoor festival that takes place at the Kiwanis Youth Area in Bellevue, adjacent to Big Marsh Lake and Michigan Audubon’s Baker Sanctuary. Established to raise awareness and appreciation for these magnificent birds and for Michigan Audubon’s education and conservation initiatives, CraneFest has grown as a nationally recognized festival, attracting both local residents and nature lovers from across the country. Festival activities include guided nature hikes, live animal presentations, educational activities for children, and a nature-themed art show with an array of vendors selling their work.
