Downtown Kalamazoo SkeleTour kicks off with party on Bates Alley
SkeleTour launch party Saturday, October 5; Skeletons on display October 5 – November 4, 2019
Downtown Kalamazoo is going to be getting a little spooky, and a lot silly. This October, the Kalamazoo Downtown Partnership is hosting the first ever Downtown Kalamazoo SkeleTour, complete with a kick-off party October 5 on Bates Alley.
From wild and wacky, to spooky and eerie, downtown streets will be adorned with one-of-a-kind, life-size skeletons that reflect local businesses and organizations unique to Kalamazoo. Throughout downtown, there will be 35 skeletons to check out and snap a ‘skelfie’ with, as well as a special hay bale display on the N. Kalamazoo Mall near the Radisson and cornstalks on light poles that will truly transform downtown into an autumn spectacular.
“Downtown Kalamazoo isn’t just a one-season location. We want the entire community, of all generations, to be downtown every season,” Kalamazoo Downtown Partnership Marketing and Engagement Manager Sue Huggett said. “We are excited to offer the SkeleTour for the first time and engage the community in the great fall offerings of downtown.”
To kick off the festivities, a SkeleTour launch party is being held in Bates Alley on Saturday, October 5 from 4-8 p.m. Bates Alley will be lined with kids’ activities, a professional pumpkin carving demonstration from 4-6 p.m., and live music from The Skeletones from 5-8 p.m.
In partnership with the SkeleTour kick-off party, the Downtown Kalamazoo Restaurant and Retail Association is presenting a Skeleton Bar Crawl beginning at 4 p.m. October 5, with skeleton-themed drink specials at $4, $5, and $6 price points at several downtown restaurants and bars. You can register for the Skeleton Bar Crawl on the downtownkalamazoo.org website and get an exclusive SkeleTour Koozie!
Additionally, the Trolley of Terror, sponsored by the City of Kalamazoo Parks and Recreation Department, will be running its traditional route throughout downtown connecting visitors to the great businesses and skeleton displays in the area. The trolley runs every Saturday in October from 4-9 p.m. On Saturday, October 26, the Trolley of Terror will even take families from Bronson Park to the City of Kalamazoo’s Safe Halloween event at Milham Park.
