Kingman Museum and Kiwanis Club of Battle Creek together present the 75th Annual Passport to Discovery Film Series! For the last presentation in this year’s compilation, we are excited to host Marlin Darrah and his travel documentary “Tropical Asia.”

Set sail on a journey to many of Southeast Asia’s most intriguing, alluring and lovely countries. The voyage begins in Hong Kong, where we visit many great sites found here in this famous and hyperactive Asian port city. Then we travel south to several locations in Vietnam: the exciting back streets of old Hanoi, the dramatic beauty of the ancient karst limestone mountains rising out of Ha Long Bay, the temples and markets of Nha Trang, and to Saigon, the dynamic and hustling city near the great Mekong River.

Next are highlights of mysterious Angkor Wat, Singapore, and Indonesia. Meet the Sultan of Ternate, in his beautiful tropical palace, for an annual celebration honoring his family’s 600 years of often-generous rule over this beautiful Spice Island. Then we travel to the unforgettable and enchanting island of Bali, with its beautifully terraced rice fields bordered by villages of artists, musicians and dancers. Still in Indonesia, we continue to the island of Java, to navigate through the sea of humanity on the streets of the massive capital city, Jakarta. And finally we journey to Thailand, to visit the densely populated and frenetic capital city of Bangkok – with it’s great Royal Palace, fascinating shopping streets, and busy market canals, with produce and other foods.

Marlin Darrah is probably the world’s most traveled filmmaker. He is the award-winning director and cinematographer of the renowned production company, International Film & Video. Darrah’s 34 years of production experience have taken him to more than 140 countries worldwide, yielding more than 70 documentary and travel-adventure programs to date. PBS, History Channel, NatGeo & Discovery Channel have aired Darrah’s international footage or programs. We are excited to have him back in Battle Creek!
