KIA Art Classes -3-2

The KIA offers free family fun every month (though kids through age 12 are always free, and adults pay just $5, students $2). Right now all ten galleries are filled with four traveling exhibitions and work from the KIA collection.

For the little ones, Art Detectives introduces kids 4-8 (with their adult) to the museum with an art story, a visit to the galleries, and art-making each second Saturday at 11 am. Upcoming dates are September 10, October 8, November 12, and December 10. Art Detectives is free, sponsored by Springgate & James, PC.

For the teens, Friday Teen Nights welcome older kids for art-making, museum-strolling, and pizza and pop on the Friday after Art Hop (usually the 2nd Friday of the month), 6-8 pm. Upcoming dates are October 15, November 11, and December 9.

As the cornerstone of downtown Kalamazoo’s monthly Art Hop, the KIA is where you’ll find the most art in the most relaxed and spacious setting the first Friday of each month (second Friday in case of holidays) – with free admission 5-8 pm. Upcoming dates are September 9 (Girls Can! open house) October 7 (Everyone’s a Member Day) and November 4 (exhibition opening for Poetry of Content). Art Hop is free, sponsored by Kalsee.

Kids Corner-2

New this fall is the redesigned Kids Corner on the KIA’s lower level. Younger visitors will love this “please touch” space with a black light corner, magnet and drawing and pegboard walls, and a cozy nook filled with art-related books for a range of ages – even a typewriter (what’s that?!).
