Fall has undoubtedly arrived – the days are crisp and the leaves have fallen.

November finds the holiday season creeping up on us, but there is plenty of FREE fall fun to pack in this month.

Don’t let the cooler temps give you cabin fever. We are thankful for all of the indoor activities to keep the family busy this month. November offers a wide range of events including craft shows, open swim times, special library events – including many Frozen 2 related themes! And, perhaps even a visit from Santa and his reindeer.

Here are our top picks of 35+ things to do with the family this November. We’ve included a mix of fall, holiday and everyday fun.

Friday, November 1

Explore downtown Kalamazoo and enjoy an evening of art exhibits and events at the November Art Hop.

Saturday, November 2

Visit the unique & talented artisans and crafters from cities throughout the Midwest for an extravaganza day of shopping during the 21st Annual Christmas Boutique Arts & Crafts Show at the Kalamazoo Expo Center.

Shop gifts from unique artists, crafters, and independent vendors at the Portage Central High School 7th Annual Arts Crafts & Gift Show.

Join the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra’s Brass Quintet for a Family Fun Chamber Series Concert at the Kalamazoo Public Library Eastwood Branch. The performance will be followed by a craft and instrument petting zoo.

Monday, November 4

Join a Circle Time at Kalamazoo Valley Museum. These literacy-based 20 minute programs are free of charge to families and preschool groups.

Tuesday, November 5

Get some energy out at the drop-in Indoor Playground at Full Blast. A small amount of play equipment will be provided.

Enjoy the tot-friendly obstacle course, “baby disco,” indoor free play & get to know other caregivers at Just Move Fitness’ October Play Date.

Does Bob Ross and his happy-little-accidents make you happy? All teens are invited to a Bob Ross Paint Along as we follow the master himself in creating our own work of art at Comstock Township Library.

Wednesday, November 6

Bring your 3-5-year-old to I’m A Big Kid NOW: Independent Storytime at Portage District Library. They will listen to stories, learn rhymes, move to music, learn the mystery letter of the week, and practice their independence away from their parents in preparation for kindergarten.

Drink a cup of coffee or tea while your child plays during Mugs and Hugs Play Time at Vicksburg District Library.

Learn, play and improve your chess skills during Chess Club at Otsego District Library. Open to students in elementary through high school.

Thursday, November 7

Wear your comfy pajamas (parents included) and bring a stuffed animal to read, sing, and dance at an animal-themed storytime during Paw Paw District Library Pajama Story Time.

Meet authors Grace Lin and Jewell Parker Rhodes at Kalamazoo Public Library Central Branch. Hear why they weave community into their stories and the importance of sharing books with children.

Friday, November 8

Bring your preschooler to Richland Community Library for Preschooler Story Time. Take part in an interactive storytime, songs and more learning activities.

Teens can hang out at Teen Scene at Otsego District Library to play games, watch movies, and create lasting memories. Featuring Xbox Kinect and Nintendo Wii gaming systems and exciting tabletop games.

Saturday, November 9

Celebrate our great state during All Things Michigan Party at Otsego District Library. Drop-in anytime during this event to find out what Michigan is known for and enjoy Michigan-themed activities and snacks.

Be an Art Detective at the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts, admission is free. The program teaches children ages four to eight (with an adult) how to look at and appreciate art through storytelling, guided looking and art-making.

Strap on your mask and cape and join Wellspring Dance Academy for Superhero Training at Kalamazoo Public Library Oshtemo Branch. Exercise your minds and bodies and prepare to save the world, one leap at a time.

Sunday, November 10

Bring the whole family to Open Swim at Allegan Aquatic Center. Enjoy a diving board, slide, lazy river, obstacle course, basketball hoop, and warm water. Open on Saturdays and Sundays.

Get active during Open Swim at Western Michigan University’s Gabel Natatorium, featuring a huge obstacle course, pool toys, diving boards, lap lanes and lifeguards.

Monday, November 11

Build whatever your heart desires with the bricks at Ransom District Library’s Build-o-Rama. Your creations will be on display all week.

Tuesday, November 12

Grow a reader at Family Storytime with Ms. Kristy at Portage District Library. All ages are welcome to sing, play, rhyme, and listen to stories.

Pick-up your free copy of the monthly book ahead of time, then join the Bookworms Book Club at Kalamazoo Public Library Oshtemo Branch.

Wednesday, November 13

Experiment with different kinds of tech, from robots to circuits, visit “Breakerspace Lab” and take apart machines and gadgets to see what’s inside during Family Night: Robotics and Tech at Portage District Library.

Thursday, November 14

Join other anime and manga fans for Anime and Manga Club at Willard Library. Hang out and talk about all things anime and manga, watch episodes, and play games.

Friday, November 15

Start your holiday shopping early by heading to the Kalamazoo Mall for KalamTopia, a makers-mart outdoor shopping event that kicks off the holiday season.

Saturday, November 16

Check out amazing floats, marching bands, and balloons – all while getting in the holiday spirit during the Kalamazoo Holiday Parade.

Sing along as local choirs perform throughout the afternoon following the Holiday Parade during Celebrating in Song at the Kalamazoo Valley Museum.

Head to Schrier Park in Portage for a visit from the Binder Park Zoo Zoomobile. Learn about native Michigan animals and artifacts during Livin’ in the Mitten.

Build, create, and imagine with other LEGO fans during LEGO at the Library at Kalamazoo Public Libary Central Branch. Duplos and LEGOs are provided.

Borrow a backpack, grab a list of questions and take to the trails for a Fall Family Scavenger Hunt at Wolf Lake State Fish Hatchery.

Celebrate at the 25th Anniversary Celebration Event at Sherman Lake YMCA. Enjoy an afternoon of food and fun activities.

Monday, November 18

Try out the new 2020 core Magic set during Magic:  The Gathering at Kalamazoo Public Library Oshtemo Branch. For grades 6-12.

Tuesday, November 19

Learn how science, technology, engineering, art, and math can be fun. Visit one or all of the STEAM stations during STEAM at Otsego District Library.

Make a custom candle with your child during Kids’ Day Out and Kalamazoo Candle Company. Kids can explore the different fragrances and mix and match their favorites until they find the perfect combination.

Wednesday, November 20

Students in fifth through 12th grade are invited to stop by Willard Library for Friendsgiving. Enjoy food, fun, celebrate friendship and share all that we’re thankful for.

Friday, November 22

Celebrate the release of Frozen 2 during Just Frozen- with Just Move at Portage District Library. Costumes are welcome as you enjoy stories, an indoor snowball fight, and other movement fun.

Join Teen Film Club at Richland Public Library to watch movies, learn about film making, and use a green screen.

Saturday, November 23

Find something for everyone on your list during the Holiday Expo & Craft Show at the Kalamazoo County Expo Center this weekend. Shop from over 250 booths.

Visit Barnes & Noble in Portage or Battle Creek for Storytime and Activities Featuring Anna, Elsa, the Secret River and Frozen 2. Preview two new books featuring stories from the new movie.

Celebrate the release of Frozen 2 during a Frozen Party at Comstock Township Library. Sing, play games, make crafts, eat treats, and hear stories from Princess Elsa herself.

Return to Arendelle for a LEGO build event where you can build a castle from Frozen 2 to take home. Available at the Portage and Battle Creek locations. Registration required.

Join Excel Dance Centre for their Sparkle Squad Free Dance Day. Kids ages six to ten can dance and celebrate their love of unicorns, mermaids, and sparkles. Registration required.

Let your toddler get some energy out during Toddler Open Play at Kingdom Sports. Available on Mondays and Wednesdays, year-round.

Explore math and science concepts through fun hands-on experiments during Junior Scientists at Antwerp Sunshine Branch Library. Designed for children in first grade and above, but supervised children of all ages are welcome.
