The Ice Rink at Millennium Park

This outdoor rink, which is operated by the Portage MI Parks & Recreation Department, is one of our favorite places to go ice skating. It is conveniently located in Portage and offers the entire family a fun place to skate outdoors. Call (269) 324-9200 for more information and also check for potential closures.

The Ice Rink at Millennium Park will remain open through March 4, 2018, weather permitting. This large outdoor refrigerated rink features skate rental, skate sharpening, snack concessions, restrooms, warming house, lockers and an excellent skating surface.

Open Skating Hours

  • Monday – Wednesday:  Closed
  • Thursday – Sunday:  Noon to 10:00 pm

Fees  

Open skate $4 and skate rental $3, OR purchase a ten punch skate card for $25.

Notes

  • On February 14, the rink will be reserved from 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm for the Valentine’s Skate  event.
  • Special hours on Monday, February 26th:  Noon to 10:00 pm.

Special Events at the Ice Rink:

Valentine’s Day Skate | February 14, 2018 6:00 pm– 9:00 pm

Private skate, live music and dinner on the ice. Bring a partner or kids for this unique Valentine experience. The evening will begin with dinner on the ice, servers on skates and a meal from Latitude 42. Following dinner, the rink will open up for skating to participants of this event only. $20 per person.

Private Lessons

Sessions are offered with talented members of the WMU Synchronized Skating Team. The sessions are available in late-January (Intro to Skating I or Intro to Skating II) for a reasonable cost of $12 per skater, per session and includes skate rental. Make sure to call the Portage Parks & Recreation office to register for the lessons at (269) 329-4522.

 

Wings West

Wings West features two NHL-sized ice rinks that are perfect for open skating, hockey, birthday parties or curling. For those who would rather stay warm and watch the fun, Wings West houses Old Burdick’s Bar and Grill, which directly overlooks one of the rinks.

Public Skate Times

Tuesday through Friday:  11:30 am to 1:30 pm

Saturday:  6:00 pm to 8:00 pm

Sunday:  1:45 pm to 3:30pm

Fees

  • Admission is $6 and skate rental is $3. Age 4 and under are FREE of admission.

Drop-In Hockey

Tuesday through Friday:  12:00 pm to 1:30 pm

Fees

  • $8 Admission. Goalies are FREE. (Limited to 26 skaters and 4 goalies)

 

Open Skate at the Lawson Ice Arena

Skate where the Bronco Hockey Team plays! Located on Western Michigan University’s campus, Lawson Ice Arena holds open noon skate times during the week and certain weekend times. Call the 24 hour number (269) 387-3046 for updated times, dates or cancellations.

  • All children aged 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Unsupervised children will not be permitted into the facilities.

The Rink – Battle Creek

The Rink in Battle Creek is operating under new ownership. They offer open skate, hockey leagues, “Sticks and Pucks” sessions and birthday packages.

South Haven Ice Rink

Looking to venture out a little further from home? Why not check out the ice rink in South Haven? The South Haven Ice Rink is located in downtown South Haven across from City Hall under the Pavilion.

Otsego Ice Rink

Otsego has an outdoor ice skating rink (located near the intersection of M89 and Farmer Street). Skating is FREE – make sure to bring your own skates. The rink is weather-dependent. For updated skating information visit the Otsego Main Street Facebook page.
