Spring Break Art Camp at the KIA is the place for creative expression and art-making fun, with half or full day camp for grades 1-6. You’ll see lots of pride and smiles when they bring you their artwork every day!
Spring break is right around the corner! If your family is planning to stay local for spring break the first week in April, don’t fret! There are some great opportunities in Kalamazoo for fun and exciting ways to keep your children busy all while having a blast. We’ve compiled a list of spring break camps ranging from full day to half days, that cover a variety of interests sure to guarantee an awesome time.

The KIA is the place for creative fun with half- and full-day Spring Break Art Camp for children grades 1-6. They will explore the museum’s galleries for inspiration and head into the studios to create their own two- and three-dimensional works of art. Prepare for happy, fulfilled kids showing off their art to you at the end of the day. All ages will enjoy creating projects in clay, painting, mixed media, and more!

Has your child shown interest in acting or singing? Sign them up for the week-long Spring Break Camp at the Kalamazoo Civic Theater. There is one for K-3rd (Rock & Roll Forever) and one for 4th-9th (Lights! Camera! Action!). Both camps will perform in the Civic Auditorium on the last day of camp. There will be a supervised lunch daily, so pack a sack lunch. On the final day of camp, the Civic provides dinner for the campers before the performance so family can just meet them at the theatre and enjoy the show! Campers will work with a director/choreographer and music director to learn the process of putting on a show…all in one week! Extended day options are available.

For the child who enjoys exploring and learning about nature, the Kalamazoo Nature Center is offering a Spring Break Camp for children ages four through fifth grade. Registration is available for individual days or the entire week. Half-day options are available for ages 4-5 and full-day options are available for grades 1-5. Each day includes stories, art, games, hikes and a different interactive topic.

Science and STEM-related fun awaits at the Air Zoo’s “Hands On” Spring Break Day Camps. The Air Zoo is offering three separate days of camps for children Pre-K through 5th grade. Preschool topics include Super Splatter Science, Buzzing a Hive, and Our Star. Topics for Kindergarten through 5th graders include Science Wizards, Secret Agent Spy School, and Spring Awakening. Preschool and Kindergarten age children are allowed to bring one adult with them. After camp, adults can purchase a wristband at half price to take their children on the rides from 4:00 pm – 5:00 pm. Extended day is available, and lunch can be purchased at the Kitty Hawk Cafe for full day campers.

Spring Break Blast Off Camp is a day style camp complete with sports, games, park visits and field trips. Children must pack a cold lunch each day. Monday – Friday from 7:00am – 5:30pm. Registration ends March 28, 2018.

The YMCA offers several styles of camps during Spring Break:
The YMCA offers their Holiday Camps on most days that the Kalamazoo Public Schools are closed, including during Spring Break. Care is provided from 6:30am – 6:00pm at the Maple Branch only. Children need to bring a morning snack, a lunch, a swimsuit and towel, and appropriate clothing for outdoor play. This camp is for all elementary school age children, grades K-5 and includes group games, arts and crafts, outdoor play, quiet reading, swimming and more!
Campers will play a variety of sports and games every day, including basketball, baseball, soccer, flag football, floor hockey, and much more!! The group will also swim, so bring a suit and towel. Don’t forget a healthy snack! Camps will be offered April 2nd-April 6th and run from 8:00 AM -12:00 PM at both the Maple and Portage branches. There are three and five day camps available.
The YMCA offers daily drop-in tennis camps during Spring Break for kids ten and under. Follow the Camp Info/Register Now button for times, costs, and locations.

In the morning (Shooting & Ball Handing), campers will work on the two most important skills in basketball through demonstrations, drills and intense work. Coaches will teach practice techniques that create positive results. For those staying for the entire day, lunch is from 12-1pm and campers can bring their own or purchase pizza ($1.50/slice). In the afternoon (Games & Competition), campers will develop team concepts through basketball games along with individual and group competitions. Skills will be taught in a competitive and fun environment. Camp is co-ed, grades 3-9.
