How One Facebook Group Became a Grassroots Movement to Help Kalamazoo Area Restaurants
The impacts of the coronavirus pandemic reach far and wide. And as I try to “look for the helpers” as Mr. Rogers advised, I didn’t have to look far in Kalamazoo to find them.
In the case of locally-owned restaurants, the “helpers” were Mark Liddle and Beth Morrison. The day after restaurants were forced to shutter their dining rooms, Mark created the Facebook group, Kalamazoo Menu.
And in seemingly no time at all, the co-founders had their own helpers. A graphic designer, web designer, attorney and multiple restaurant owners joined the charge. As group members shared their meal photos and celebrated each restaurant staying open, the little group grew exponentially.
In less than a month, Kalamazoo Menu grew to over 26,000 members and launched its own website.
Where Families Can Find the Latest Menu Options and Specials for Carryout Food
Kalamazoo Menu’s website gives owners a forum to advertise their menus, hours, specials and locations. But restaurant owners are not the only beneficiaries. For local families, this site can uncover food for even your pickiest eater.
Utilizing this website’s extensive search functions, you can easily find restaurants that offer kids menus. Allergen sensitive families can benefit too, as they are only a few clicks away from their meal: gluten free, vegan, vegetarian, keto and dairy free are all searchable options.
And you can take comfort in knowing that information was provided by the restaurant’s owner. Each restaurant personally maintains its own site data on Kalamazoo Menu.
Big List of Local Restaurants to Order Carry Out or Delivery, Listed by Area
I Don’t Recall Ever Making this Many Meals
Sure, the kids are old enough to help prep in the kitchen. But a night off from cooking and a chance to support local is a win-win for our family.
We’ve curated a list of local restaurants offering curb-side pickup and delivery and it’s updated regularly – see the list, sorted by community.
Not ready to order now? You can also help restaurants by purchasing a gift card or writing a positive review online. You may inspire someone else to find a new favorite pub, bakery or diner.
The following eateries are offering take-out, curbside pickup and delivery, either internally or through third party vendors. Make sure to confirm availability via the restaurant directly. Also, note that some are limiting hours of availability and menu items.
