A Must-See Museum in Kalamazoo…That’s Free!

Where can you take the kids to have fun, see cool exhibits, watch movies in the Planetarium, and do some hands-on crafts?

The Kalamazoo Valley Museum has been one of our “go to” places since my son was very little.  We love all of the exhibits, especially the hands-on exhibits on the second floor.  My son is a button pusher and an explorer, so there is plenty to do and see. We’ve had out of town guests comment that they can’t believe that we have such a great museum in Kalamazoo and…its free!

Our Favorites

One our our favorite events are the Hands-On Happenings that take place periodically at the Kalamazoo Valley Museum. This past week, they had a special Make a Joyful Noise Hands-On Happenings that tied in with the third floor exhibit, Wild Music, Sounds, & Songs of Life. They have volunteer manned craft stations that we could put together items that related to the theme “It’s a Dance Party!” We got to color a windsock, design a fan, create dance streamers, color a sombrero, and much more. We loved all of the crafts that we got to put together and take home.

If you haven’t been to the Kalamazoo Valley Museum yet, I recommend that you check it out. There is a great Children’s Landscape area on the second floor for kids under five years old. The themes are constantly changing and there is always something new to see.

In the upcoming months, plan to attend the second annual Storytelling Festival which place February 1, 2014 from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. The vendor fair opens at 10:00 on the third floor in the special exhibition gallery of the Museum. Storytellers, writers, musicians, bookstores, illustrators, and more will be on hand to share the creative wealth of stories in this region. This is a fun event and there will be much to do and see.

Inventions 101
Also, mark your calendar for Inventions 101! on February 15, 2014 from 1-4 pm. You will be able to create your own inventions and celebrate those made by Michigan inventors.
