Manistee is approximately 2 and 3/4 hours from Kalamazoo. It is an adorable little town just North of Ludington. We have been spending time there the last three years and we discover something new every visit!
The greater Manistee area is a fantastic destination if you love outdoor activities! You will find a number of beaches, hiking trails and opportunities to participate in a variety of water sports. Take a peek at the attached Visitor’s Guide to help plan your agenda.
Our two favorite restaurants are the House of Flavors and the bluefish Kitchen + Bar. The House of Flavors is an iconic restaurant designed to look like a 50’s style diner. The menu is extensive and the ice cream is amazing! We also enjoy the bluefish, especially sitting outside watching the boats float down the river.
The Riverwalk is one of my seven year old’s favorite activities. It runs from the downtown business district, through the marina and ends at the First Street Beach.
The First Street Beach has a lot to offer families in regards to entertainment. From the beach you can access two amazing playgrounds! The Lighthouse Park offers an enormous wooden playground that is suitable for toddlers on up! I love to play on it too! A recent addition as of July 2015 is Rocket Park. A brand new structure that is painted a vibrant red, white and blue.
Fifth Avenue Beach and Lighthouse is also a great destination. The beach is beautiful and you can walk out to the lighthouse.
We are all so lucky to live in a state with such beautiful beach towns to visit! Here’s to getting out and about and exploring the coastline!!!!!!
