Sharpen your ice skates, bundle up, and head out for some great family fun! The Ice Rink at Millennium Park plans to open for its 18th season on Saturday, December 9th, after a bit of a delay due to the warmer than expected conditions. Whether you are old, young or somewhere in between; this is a must-do activity over the long winter season in Michigan.

The ice rink will remain open through Sunday, March 4, 2018, weather permitting. The large outdoor refrigerated rink features skate rental, skate sharpening, snack concessions, restrooms, warming house, lockers, and an excellent skating surface! See below for the hours of operation this season and special events at the rink!

Ice resurfacing: occurs from 3:30 pm – 4:30 pm on weekends and daily December 22 – January 8.

Fees: Open skate $4 and skate rental $3, OR purchase a ten punch skate card for $25

Santa Skate | December 16, 2017  3:00 – 5:00 pm

Join us for an afternoon of fun on the ice with jolly old Saint Nick! Enjoy holiday music and skating with the Big Man himself. Bring your cameras and phones for this fantastic holiday photo op with family and friends! $5 Skate & Rental Package / $3 Skate only.

New Year’s Eve Skate | December 31, 2017  5:00 – 9:00 pm

Get ready to ring in 2018 with an exciting night at the rink! Join for an evening of upbeat music by a local DJ, party lighting after dark and a special countdown at 7 p.m. to coincide with New Year’s at the Royal Observatory in Greenwich, U.K. This is a great spot for teens and families to celebrate the New Year in a safe and fun environment. $5 Skate & Rental Package / $3 Skate only.

Mascot Madness | January 6, 2018  3:00 – 5:00 pm

Come join a menagerie of mascots for a fun afternoon at Millennium Park Ice Rink! Bring your friends and family along to skate and snap photos with your favorite mascots from your favorite sports teams and local businesses. $5 Skate & Rental Package / $3 Skate only.

Valentine’s Day Skate | February 14, 2018 6:00 – 9:00 pm

Private skate, live music and dinner on the ice. Bring your partner or kids for this unique Valentine experience. The evening will begin with dinner on the ice, servers on skates and a meal from Latitude 42. Following dinner, the rink will open up for skating to participants of this event only. $20 per person.


Ice Skating Lessons at Millennium Park 

My children have taking ice skating lessons in the past and plan to do so this coming year.  Sessions are offered with talented members of the WMU Synchronized Skating Team. The sessions are available in late-January (Intro to Skating I or Intro to Skating II) for a reasonable cost of $12 per skater, per session and includes skate rental. Make sure to call the Portage Parks & Recreation office to register for the lessons at (269) 329-4522.
