With the busy holiday season, sometimes you just need a break. What better idea than to get a group of girlfriends together for a Mom’s Night Out! We asked our readers a few months ago for their suggestions and also added some of our own. So, if you have a chance, take the opportunity to check out one of the suggestions on this list.

Happy Our Art in Kalamazoo

Bring your friends, bring snacks and beverages (adult beverages are allowed) and everyone in the class paints a painting. The instructor gives you step-by-step very basic instructions. It’s a great opportunity to do something creative and watch as everyone creates a work of art! Just click on the calendar on their website to see what paintings will be created at each class. You can also book private parties if you have a large enough group.

Wine and Canvas


Wine and Canvas operates much like Happy Our Art, only they have snacks and beverages available for purchase at the studio. All of the paintings for the month are posted on the calendar on their website.


Bella Patina Craft Night

Bella Patina hosts monthly “Create-n-Take” Workshops that are $20 per person & include all materials, wine & dessert. Classes are usually from 7:00 pm-9:00 pm on a Thursday nights. They typically schedule classes one month in advance. They also love to host private parties for 10 person minimum/$20 per person which includes creating a craft of your choice, wine & dessert. Continental Pastries & Deli in Battle Creek

Continental Pastries & Deli in Battle Creek is now offering Pinterest Classes. These classes are perfect for Mom’s who love to make crafts, but don’t always have time to go to the craft store and get all the supplies. Pinterest classes at Continental are held monthly for $40. As long as you register ahead of time, you just have to show up and the supplies will be there, along with someone to walk you through the craft. Alamo Drafthouse

At least once a month Alamo Drafthouse in Kalamazoo offers Alamo Girlie Night where they bring back a classic movie with big appeal for women. Past titles have included Steel Magnolias, Pretty In Pink, Pitch Perfect, Clueless and more!  For the month of December, it’s LOVE ACTUALLY on December 11. These are usually co-hosted by Lori Moore and/or James Sanford, Creative Director for the Alamo Drafthouse and often have trivia contests or games to start the show.

They also hold frequent Sing-Alongs. They’ve hosted sold-out shows of The Sound of Music, Grease, Moulin Rouge and many others.


Tempo Vino Winery

At Tempo Vino Winery, they do wine tasting during normal business hours. Customers are welcome to stop in any time and sample wines, the cost is $5 for the tasting.  The tasting is also free with purchase.

Tempo Vino Winery is also available for private wine tasting functions. If you have a group and want your own wine tasting event, the cost if $15/per person/ per hour (with a minimum charge for 10 people). Customers can make their own wine. You taste their wines and decide what to make. Then, they mix the ingredients together to start the fermentation. It takes about 2-6 months to complete. More information can be found at:

A fun and interactive dinner prepared by Chef John. Open reservations are available on Thursdays at 6:30 pm and Fridays & Saturdays at 5:30 pm & 8:30 pm. Wine Loft

Every Tuesday is 1/2 off bottle’s of wine night. December 15 is a Gingerbread Decorating event for ADULTS. Check their Wine Loft Facebook page for wine events and dinners that would be a perfect night out for girlfriends.

Dinner and A Show

Millennium Restaurant Group has partnered with local arts organizations to make a special night out pairing a $30 three course meal with popular music and theater tickets in Kalamazoo. More info at


Cityscape Event Center

The event of the season, Tony & Tina’s Wedding, is presented in partnership with the Millennium Restaurant Group and will be held at Cityscape Events in downtown Kalamazoo.
