Happy Holidays! This is one of the BIGGEST weekends of the year and there are a ton of holiday events and activities happening this weekend. So many, in fact, that this is our largest Weekend Picks ever! So stay close to town, grab the kids, and head out to one of these fun events.

Art Hop | Located at various locations in Kalamazoo on December 4 from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm, Click here for the brochure.

  • Monthly Art Hop in Kalamazoo and one of the biggest Art Hop’s of the year! Free.

Festival of Trees at 4-H Camp Kidwell | Located at 4-H Camp Kidwell, Bloomingdale from December 3-6.

  • Decorated trees and wreathes, a visit w/ Santa, make cookies w/ Mrs. Claus and have a meal with family and friends.

Wedel’s Santa Workshop | Located at Wedel’s Nursery, Florist and Garden Center in Kalamazoo on December 4 & 5.

  • Make it, take it workshops, decorate cookies, Santa, and live Christmas music performances

Candy Cane Hunt | Located at Mayor’s Riverfront Park on December 5 from 12:00 – 2:00 pm.

  • Close to 5,000 candy canes in this candy cane hunt. For kids 8 years old and under. Santa, hot chocolate, Christmas music and more. Free.

Nutcracker 2015 | Located at the Chenery Auditorium in Kalamazoo on December 5 & 6.

  • Performed by the Ballet Arts Ensemble and performing with the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra. Other participants include the Kalamazoo Children’s Chorus, musicians from the Suzuki Violin Academy and Dr. Raymond Harvey (music director of the KSO) as Mother Ginger.

Tree Lighting Ceremony | Located at the City Centre, near the Portage District Library on December 5 at 7:00 pm and then leading to the Celery Flats Historical Area where the holiday celebration will take place.

  • Join the fun for the City of Portage’s holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony. You’ll find holiday lights, caroling and holiday treats. You’ll also find Santa and Mrs. Claus greeting visitors at the historic schoolhouse. Admission is free and donations of food, toys and outerwear will be accepted for the Portage Community Center.

Holidays at the Homestead | Located at the DeLano Homestead of the Kalamazoo Nature Center on December 6 from 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm.

  • Join the 1800’s-style celebration and holiday traditions. Free to members, non-members adults- $7, children & students (4-17)-$4 and children 3 & Under-free. Activities include: making gingerbread cookies and crafts, listening to live music in the parlor, strolling to the 1830s log cabin replica, and more.
