We’ve made it to the last week of February and March will be here soon! We had our first snow day in a while and may have a bit of cabin fever. There’s plenty to do this weekend, so grab the kids and head out for some local fun!

Winter Jamboree | February 27 from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm | Milham Park Golf Course

  • Your hosts, City of Portage Parks & Recreation, Kalamazoo Parks & Recreation, Lee’s Adventure Sports and Pedal Bicycle, have joined together to offer these FREE winter activities! Bring the family, dress for the weather and prepare for some fun in the snow. Attendees will have the opportunity to sample various winter sports, build a snowman or igloo, try ICE bowling, and take part in our cardboard sled race! Free.

 

2016 U.S. Synchronized Skating Championships|  Feb. 24‐27 | Wings Event Center in Kalamazoo

  • The event features 91 teams and nearly 1,800 skaters competing in eight divisions: juvenile, intermediate, novice, junior, senior, collegiate, adult and masters. Competition begins Thursday, Feb. 25 with the juvenile and intermediate free skates followed by the junior and senior short programs.
  • Day passes are $25 for adults with discounted rates available for children 12 and under, seniors over 60 and active military. All seats are general admission.

 

Fly Tying 101: Meet the Woolybugger | February 27 at 10:00 am & 1:00 pm | Wolf Lake Hatchery in Mattawan

  • Learn the basics of tying flies. All practice materials are provided. Class size is limited for each session. Pre-registration is required. This program is recommended for those 8 years of age and older. Sessions are approximately two hours in length. Free.

February is Open Cockpit Month at the Air Zoo. It’s a great opportunity to check out one of their amazing aircraft. The Air Zoo’s open cockpit experience is FREE with paid general admission and offers great photo opportunities.

Check out the 20th Annual Garage Sale Art Fair at the Kalamazoo Expo Center on Saturday. Always some good bargains to be had!
