Happy Valentine’s Day Weekend! You’re going to LOVE some of the family fun things to do this weekend in and around Kalamazoo. Have a super weekend and give your kiddos an extra hug for Valentine’s Day.

Valentine’s Day Related Events for Kids

Do your kiddos love doing Valentine’s Day activities? There are eight different events for you to try out on Saturday alone! Some of the Valentine’s event require advanced RSVP or tickets, so make sure that you plan accordingly.


Youth Ice Fishing 101

Saturday, February 14 from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm at at the Wolf Lake Hatchery in Mattawan.

Youth ages 3 – 16 will learn the basics of ice fishing on the hatchery ponds. All equipment is provided. This program is being held to celebrate FREE FISHING WEEKEND in Michigan.


Art Detectives

Saturday, February 14 from 11:15 am – 12:15 pm at the KIA in Kalamazoo.  

  • In Art Detectives, children hear stories about art, go into the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts galleries to see and learn about the art on display, and do art in the Kirk Newman Art School. It’s all free!

Snowshoe Nature Hike: Snowshoes, Tree and Fungi, Oh My!

Saturday, February 14 from 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm at Schrier Park in Portage. 

  • What a great Valentine’s adventure! Join a Kalamazoo Nature Center Naturalist, and snowshoe the trails of Schrier Park. Winter gives us a different perspective as we look at trees and fungi. What can we learn from them in the snow?
  • Demo snowshoes available on a first come, first served basis, courtesy of Lee’s Adventure Sports. Nature hike will occur regardless of snow conditions and hiking boots may be worn if preferred.


“Stulberg Celebration”

Sunday, February 15 from from 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm at the Chenery Auditorium in Kalamazoo. 

  • As part of the Kalamazoo Junior Symphony’s current season, Schumann Cello Concerto with Stulberg Gold Medalist Zlatomir Fung
    Franck Symphony in d minor
