Learn Spanish through Charades Hands-On Learning Event

Saturday, May 30 from 11:00 am – 12:00 pm at the Barnes and Noble in Portage.

  • Come learn and have fun as we play Spanish Charades with eeBoo’s Spanish Flash Cards! Recommended for ages 5+. Please RSVP with Barnes and Noble as space is limited. Can’t wait to see you there!

Kalamazoo Nature Center Camp Open House

Sunday, June 1 from 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm at the Kalamazoo Nature Center in Kalamazoo. 

  • Fun for the Whole Family! Experience camp for yourself at the New KNC Camp! Meet the counselors, check out the new camp facilities, zoom down the giant Slip ‘n Slide, wallow in the mud pit, enjoy the natural play area, make some art, test yourself on the obstacle course, ask a Naturalist your wildlife questions, and meet LIVE ANIMALS. Director Jenny and the 2014 Camp Staff will be on hand to help you get ready for an awesome summer of camp!

Public Tour: Tiffany Jewels at the KIA

Sunday, June 1 from 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm at the KIA in Kalamazoo. 

  • Included with gallery admission This week’s topic: Tiffany Jewels. View jewelry by Louis Comfort Tiffany, who was the lead jewelry designer for Tiffany & Co. beginning in 1902. At the height of the Art Nouveau period in Europe and America, his elegant jewelry designs were informed by a love of nature and exotic Middle Eastern cultures.

Opening Act In The Park

Sunday, June 1 at 4:00 pm at Mattawan Park in Mattawan. 

  • Join us for an evening of fun, family-friendly entertainment in two acts.
    Act I: Voice and Guitar students sing and play your favorites!
    Act II: Nobody’s Perfect: A Musical Written By Kids For Kids.

Southwest Michigan Cultural Exchange

With the last weekend in May, we wanted to highlight the Cultural Exchange again. It is an opportunity to get out and explore one of the fun institutions around Kalamazoo. Binder Park Zoo, KIA, KNC, Air Zoo, and the Gilmore Car Museum. All you need is a membership to any of the listed organizations and you can get into the others for free! This is only for the month of May, so get out there while you can.

    Oh my gosh! This is fantastic information! Thank you very, very, very much for sharing all the great opportunities for folks to enjoy activities in and around Kalamazoo. And a special thanks for including family-oriented events. As the grant manager for the Bodewadmi LAUNCH Consortium–a consortium of the three “sister” Potawatomi Tribes in southwest Michigan that promotes young child wellness using a holistic approach with a strong social-emotional focus–I understand how critically important it is that families develop as many “protective”–as opposed to “risk” factors–as possible!
