Ballet Arts Ensemble Presents The Princess and the Pea

The Ballet Arts Ensemble (BAE) is excited to open this year’s season with The Princess and the Pea. The Ballet Arts Ensemble is a nonprofit, youth ballet company that provides educational and performing opportunities to its members.

Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased online or by calling the Miller Auditorium box office at 269-387-2300.

With only two afternoon performances on Saturday, November 17 and Sunday, November 18, seats will fill quickly, so don’t delay in ordering! Tickets range in price from $13 to $18.

Retelling of a Classic

Did you know that Hans Christian Andersen wrote over 200 fairytales?

One of Andersen’s most famous, The Princess and the Pea, is coming to Kalamazoo’s historic Chenery Auditorium. However, don’t expect the 1835 classic: this version of the story brings new twists to an old tale.

You likely know the original fairy tale: despite a massive stack of mattresses, the princess endures a sleepless night due to discomfort from a pea tucked underneath them. The story concludes with a happily ever after for the prince and his sleepy bride.

A ticket to Ballet Arts Ensemble’s The Princess and the Pea provides a new adventure for this classic story. Retold balletically with the music of Giuseppe Verdi, this reimagined version by Artistic Director Cathleen Huling includes the addition of new characters and a new, unusual ending you won’t want to miss!

Stay for Tea and Meet the Cast

How many times have you seen a live performance and wished you could meet the cast?

Following each performance, audience members can attend the Princess Tea to meet the dancers and get their autographs. Tickets for the Tea are purchased separately from the performance, for only $6 each. Make sure to order your tickets now for this special add-on event as there is limited seating.

Loved the Wizard of Oz since I first saw it! I have a huge family and the 12 of us would sit down quietly in front of the TV back before DVD’s and streaming. My parents made popcorn which was a treat and 10 excited kids jostled for the best floor space. Everyone oohed and ahhed when black and white changed to color in the land of Oz and I would sing Over the Rainbow so often in the days following that my baby brother would plug his ears. I have seen this musical performed live several times over the years and it was amazing every time but nothing has really topped sitting in my PJ’s waiting for the beautiful music to come.
