Experience Wild Weather Inside the Air Zoo
As transplants to Kalamazoo, our family was unfamiliar with the Air Zoo. However, it wasn’t long after our first visit that we purchased a membership and this museum easily became a family favorite. My kids love the rides and the exhibits, and I love watching their interests in engineering, robotics and other sciences grow. A win-win for everyone.
Have you ever wondered how strong a tornado’s winds are? Or how big hailstones can grow? Inside the Air Zoo, families can experience weather’s most fascinating phenomena.
Play meteorologist for the day: immerse yourself in cutting-edge weather technology and investigate the stories of scientists, forecasters, and passionate weather enthusiasts through fun, interactive exhibits. Create a mini tornado, dance up a storm, and witness the virtual destruction of a town from an F5 tornado.
Flight Simulators, Rides, and Plenty of Planes
Ride a flight simulator, take a spin on the Ferris Wheel, or check out the children’s room with mini spaceships. You can also explore hands-on exhibits demonstrating physics and other science disciplines.
As expected, there is no shortage of planes in the Air Zoo. The museum includes more than 50 fixed and rotary wing aircraft: from a replica of the first Wright Flyer to WWII fighters and bombers, there is something for everyone to enjoy. The Air Zoo is also home to spacecraft, rockets, space capsules and missiles.
Two Buildings to Explore
Want to see how aircraft are restored? Don’t forget the second building.
The Wild Weather exhibit is housed within the main campus of the Air Zoo, known as the Flight Innovation Center. However, there is more to see at the Air Zoo: take a short walk (or the new electric shuttle) over to their second building, the Flight Discovery Center and get a behind the scenes look at their work with aircraft.
