Fall In Love All Over Again With The Original Tale of Sleeping Beauty
You likely grew up seeing the Disney version of Sleeping Beauty, complete with fairies arguing about Aurora’s perfect dress color and woodland animals, but most of all, you remember the curse.
Sleeping Beauty is a fairy tale written by Charles Perrault, known for many of our childhood favorites such as Cinderella and Little Red Riding Hood. For one afternoon only, at Miller Auditorium, experience the original tale on stage.
Immerse yourself in wonder as an evil fairy condemns a baby to prick her finger and die on her sixteenth birthday, but the Lilac Fairy swoops in and manages to change the curse so that she will only fall asleep until she is awoken by a prince’s kiss.
Sleeping Beauty is a classic coming-of-age tale with love and adventure. It is replete with a king and queen, good and evil fairies, a beautiful princess, and a dreamy prince.
The Russian National Ballet and a Mesmerizing Performance
The Russian National Ballet has been bringing ballet performances to North America since 1999. Sleeping Beauty originally premiered as The Sleeping Princess in 1890 in St. Petersburg and has enjoyed status as the finest achievement of Classical Ballet.
The Russian National Ballet is coming to Miller Auditorium to perform this timeless classic live on stage for one performance on Sunday, January 20, 2019, and we have your chance to win tickets.
Featuring the grandest spectacles of dance, elaborate sets and costumes, a stunning score by Tschaikovsky, and a cast of remarkable characters, Sleeping Beauty is a performance the entire family will enjoy. It’s perfect for music and live performance lovers, little princes and princesses, and those who want to see this classic fairy tale performed in a new way.
In addition to the Russian National Ballet’s – Sleeping Beauty performance, Miller Auditorium is hosting a pre-performance Princess Tea Party at WMU’s Fetzer Center at 1:30 PM on January 20. The tea will feature a special Princess as well as light hors-d’oeuvres and refreshments. Tickets are available for just $15, in addition to the performance ticket.
