Inspire a Child’s Lifelong Love of Music

Want to inspire a child’s creativity, analytical thinking and lifelong love of music? Introduce your child(ren) to the Family Discovery Series at the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra.

For many, the idea of taking younger children to the symphony seems overwhelming at best. Not with the KSO. Make your next family outing a trip to Chenery Auditorium to explore the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra’s interactive, engaging, and festive events.

The Family Discovery Series consists of one-hour concerts filled with enthralling music and interactive drama. Included in the ticket price, concert-goers can attend a “Meet the Maestro” event and the child-favorite “Instrument Petting Zoo” before the concert (pre-concert activities begin at 2:00 PM).

The Phantom of the Orchestra

This winter, the KSO’s Family Discovery Series is excited to perform The Phantom of the Orchestra at Chenery Auditorium. During this family-friendly show, mysterious calamities will transpire during the entire show. Your family will join Inspector Jones on a musical adventure as he works to uncover an elaborate scheme to silence the orchestra forever!

The concerts in this series are perfect for children ages 4 and up.

  1. Hi! Thanks for this tip! My preferred instrument is the piano, and I used to be a piano teacher when I was a teen! Today I have two daughters that are very lazy to learn any musical instrument, certainly I’ll use this opportunity to introduce them to the orchestra.

  2. I liked and now I’m following the Kalamzoo Orchestra Facebook page. Here I am looking for the tickets!!!!

  3. I used to play clarinet, bass clarinet and percussion. I’d have to say I probably enjoyed either bass clarinet or percussion the best- forndifferent reasons!

  4. Jessica Guerriero

Our favorite instrunent is the flute, I played in school.
    Thank you for the opportunity.

  5. Amanda Whittaker

My favorite instrument is the saxophone. My kids played percussion. Drums are definitely not my favorite, LOL!

  6. I like the Facebook page and my favorite instrument is the harpsichord. It has been since childhood.

  7. Stephanie Slingerland

My favorite instrument is the organ. My dad plays and my grandma played, and whenever I hear it, I think of them both.

  8. This sounds like an awesome performance! My daughter loves live musical performances!!! We are a family of drummers and percussionists, but my kid’s current favorite is her new harmonica she got over the holidays.

  9. My favorite instrument is a trumpet and flute because I grew up with both of my parents playing those two instruments.

  10. My 3 and 6 year old boys love music, so much! I’m not exactly sure there favorite instrument but last year the oldest got an electric guitar and the youngest got a drum set. They also have access to keyboards a piano and a harmonica. Thanks for having such an adorable show.
