Zap Zone Joins Crossroads Mall in Former Sears Spot

Like many Kalamazoo area residents, we’ve been watching the construction at Crossroads Mall with great anticipation.

Announced in January of 2025, a massive indoor play center, Zap Zone XL, was coming, and it was going to be BIG.

How big exactly?

Over 150,000 square feet and over 10 million dollars invested (reported at $12 to $15 MIL).

This entertainment powerhouse lives up to its XL moniker with bowling, go-karts, roller skating, laser tag, a restaurant, bar and more.

We were lucky to visit before they opened their doors on Monday, February 16; read on for a preview of this massive space, formerly occupied by Sears:

Zap Zone XL Attractions

There’s no risk of boredom here: Zap Zone offers activities for a variety of ages and interests- including adults!

Most attractions are open and prepped to go; a few others will join after opening day:

Laser Tag

Located in the former Sears automotive repair shop, the laser tag area is HUGE, spanning two stories.

The artwork here is stunning, freehand-painted by an artist without using stencils.

Laser tag is $10 per person.

Go-Karts

The go-kart track may be the largest we’ve ever seen. There are two options here: Family Karting and Hi-Speed Karting.

Family Karting

  • Double-seaters with slower speeds
  • Driver must be 56 inches tall and at least 8 years old
  • Passengers under 8 years & 56 inches tall must ride with an adult at least 54 inches and 18 years old
  • $15 per race

Hi-Speed Karting

  • Much faster experience on a custom course
  • Must be at least 14 years old and 62 inches tall, max 300 lbs
  • Must Have Valid Registration & Waiver Completed (By a Parent/Guardian 18+ if Minor is Racing)
  • $25 per race; $40 for two races

Bumper Cars

Enjoy some dizzying fun with the bumper cars at Zap Zone. If purchasing by attraction, these are $10 per session:

Bowling & Roller Skating

The massive maple roller-skating rink features an immersive light show. Don’t have skates? Rent some here for an additional $5.

Strike up a good time with Zap Zone’s bowling. Sessions are $35 per lane, per hour.

Arcade

Arcade fans will find a good mix of games here, including driving and basketball games.

Pricing

Zap Zone XL offers flexible pricing: pay per attraction or purchase a day pass that covers multiple attractions.

There are also daily specials available.

  • Standard Attractions: $10-$13 per person
  • VIP Attractions: $10-$35 per experience

Daily Passes (on homepage)

  • Standard: Starts at $39.99
  • VIP: Starts at $75

Daily Specials (on homepage): weekday specials offered Monday through Thursday, with a discounted, flat fee for multiple attractions.

Hours

Ready to play? Zap Zone is open from noon, six days a week, and stays open late.

Saturdays start earlier at 10 AM.

For the night owls, you can play until 1 AM on Friday and Saturday evenings.

  • Friday: Noon – 1 AM
  • Saturday: 10 AM – 1 AM

NOTE: After 6 PM, guests must be 18 years of age with a valid state ID or accompanied by a legal guardian/parent.
