Trick or Treat at Ramona Park with Monster Mash

One of our favorite Halloween events returns on October 18, 2025: Monster Mash.

This must-see event from the City of Portage is sought out annually by local families who can trick or treat and enjoy Halloween themed activities for FREE at Ramona Park.

Expect costumes, oodles of candy, and family-friendly fun plus a movie to cap off the evening’s adventures.

Monster Mash Highlights

Monster Mash is an annual trick-or-treat tradition in Portage. Find local businesses ready to distribute goodies to costumed kids, plus food and seasonal activities—rain or shine!

Monster Mash is a free activity and does not require registration to attend.

Halloween Themed Activities

The kids won’t be bored at Ramona Park. Here’s what’s scheduled for 2025:

  • Spooky trail hayride
  • Inflatables
  • Magic show
  • Pumpkin carving demonstrations
  • A live DJ
2022 Monster Mash Highlights

Ghostbuster On The Big Screen

At dusk, bring some snacks and hop in your vehicles for a drive-in movie showing of Ghostbuster (1989 version).

Parking begins at 5:30 PM, with the movie starting at 7:00 PM.

NEW! Monster Mash Graveyard

NEW this year! Get in the spirit by creating your very own gravestone for the Monster Mash Graveyard!

Design a spooky, family-friendly gravestone made of wood or plywood (at least ½ inch thick) with a protective outdoor topcoat. Gravestones should measure between 2’ x 2’ and 4’ x 8’, cut into a fun shape (no plain squares), and feature fictional characters only. All designs must be weather-proof and appropriate for outdoor display.

Cost: FREE – No registration required!

Gravestone Drop-Off:
September 15 – October 3
📍 Department of Public Works (7719 South Westnedge Avenue)
Gravestone Pick-Up:
October 20, 9 AM – 2 PM or October 21, 4 – 8 PM
📍 Ramona Park (8600 South Sprinkle Road), Monster Mash Cemetery
Gravestones not picked up will be disposed of by the city.

Promote Your Business at Monster Mash

Interested in helping out and advertising your company? The Portage Parks & Recreation invites businesses and organizations to hand out candy each year.

The city asks that you bring enough candy for at least 3,000 children and encourages everyone to wear costumes.

If you are interested in a Trick-or-Treating booth, you can register online. Booths are $50 each.
