For nearly 30 years, the Crescendo Academy of Music has been providing high quality music lessons to children, adults, and families in the Kalamazoo area. Year-round lessons are available in increments of 15 to 60 minutes, depending on the age and skill level of the musician. Programs available for infants/toddlers through adults, including programs for students with special needs and ensembles for all ages.

The Broughton Music & Art Center is a full service experience for young musicians and families. Offering instrument rental as well as repair services, students can rent and take lessons on a wide range of instruments including string, brass, woodwind, voice, piano and percussion. Classes in music theory and composition are also available.

The Suzuki Academy offers weekly private and group lessons in violin, viola, piano, cello and guitar. Private lessons vary from 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the playing level and age of the student.

Marshall’s School of Music offers music lessons in all band and orchestra instruments as well as piano, voice, guitar and drums. From beginners to advanced learners, children to retired adults, all are welcome and challenged at Marshall Music Co. Instruments are also available for rental, purchase and repair services are offered.

Looking for a bit more of a rock-and-roll atmosphere? If so, Kalamazoo Academy of Rock might be the ticket. Musicians ages 8-18 can experience a rock band program. Beginners to more experienced players welcomed.
The summer and fall programs run over 10 week periods and the winter/spring session is a 16 week period. Beginners are placed with a teacher for private lessons. As their skills are developed, they will move to a group band rehearsal format. Each session ends with a performance in a real rock club. For students wanting more experience, a Workshop Band is also available.

The Gilmore Education Program offers several types of small group and private piano lessons to students of all ages and backgrounds. Programs include Piano Labs for students, Gilmore Piano Camp at Sherman Lake YMCA, and KeysFest, which features professional pianists and educators and gives students the chance to perform in a master class.

Thompson Tutoring offers music lessons on a variety of instruments including piano, percussion, voice, string instruments, woodwind instruments and brass instruments for beginners and advanced musicians. Instructors provide in-home lessons.

Guitar Center offers private lessons in guitar, bass, keyboards, and drums. Guitar Center has flexible scheduling and lessons are available for ages six and up in 30 and 60 minute sessions, allowing students to progress at their own pace. Also offered are recording lessons and a Rock Show program which connects students to other musicians at the same skill level to get the full experience.

Private lessons at The Music Center allow students to build skills and enjoyment with weekly instruction and mentoring support. Lessons are offered to students at all skill levels (ages six to adult) in just about every instrument. Some of the private lessons available: brass and woodwinds, guitar and mandolin, orchestral strings, percussion, piano, ukulele, voice. Lessons are offered in 30, 45 and 60 minute sessions.
CGStudio offers private, Skype and group guitar lessons. Private and Skype lessons are scheduled once each week in 30, 45 and 60 minute sessions. These lessons include exercises that will allow students to play in an accompaniment style (chords etc.) and solo guitar style which includes scales, arpeggios, and written works.
Learning guitar in a group lesson format is a fun way to begin guitar training. The class will teach common accompaniment techniques, note reading, ensemble playing, and basic guitar theory.
